Im so annoyed, went to check my online banking this morning and found EDF has taken £91 from my account instead of the agreed £31 direct debit as they stated in my online bill.

Im so :mad: they had been messing my fixed direct debits around since November last year and when my winter bill came in :eek: it was huge:eek:, thankfully I was credited £120 to my account from the Warm Home Discount Scheme and this helped the amount owing thankfully they seem to have at least have got that part correct.

I lived on a strict fixed income and am always checking my online bank account and every day in fear of something going wrong and going into an unauthorised overdraft and incurring bank charges etc, thankfully when they took this wrong amount I had some money for other direct debits and it covered the wrong amount that they had debited...leaving me to try and find this extra money from somewhere to cover my other direct debits due tommorow:(:(.

I phoned EDF and wonders of wonders got through on the first call, and there attitude was oh yes I see what we have done well at least your in credit..bloody idiots, like talking to a mechanised script reader, was not impressed.
Im on there Fix till 2012 tariff and it will cost £25 to leave them, Im so tempted to tell them where to ahem put there account and inefficiency, so I intend to check out the tariffs online and compare them,Im just so fed up with there inability to do simple tasks like taking the correct direct debit amount and take a direct debit on time..

If I had not had enough money in the bank and they took the wrong amount sending me into bank bouncing my next direct debit would I have had any comeback from them?

Right thanks for listening to my EDF moans and woes, I had such high hopes for this company after nightmares from nPower seems they are all a law unto themselves..

Who is the latest decent tariff company on the block these days Im electricity only...

Janey who has calmed down now cheers xx:o

Fix for 2012 tariff with EDF for Midlands region is
Daily Standing Charge 13.86p excl VAT
Unit Rate per KWH 12.79p excl VAT no VAT it is the following

Daily Standing Charge 13.5p per day
Unit Rate per KWH 12.18p

I get a 6% discount for paying by Direct Debit and it costs £25 to terminate this fixed deal before 31st December 2012

Im off to compare tariffs etc, EDF you have really made me disillusioned with your total lack of customer care but am impressed NOT with your money grabbing from my bank acccount oh I wish I could have a peaceful life...
This is my wish for you: Comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, patience to accept the truth, Love to complete your life.

Google 'Direct Debit Guarantee' and then make a claim direct with your bank if any error has occurred (including lack of proper advance notice of any change in the amount collected).

If you had incurred any consequential loss as a result of an erroneous direct debit (such as incurring bank charges) then this is also covered by the Direct Debit Scheme and again a claim should be made direct to your bank (not the supplier!)

In addition claim compensation of at least £20. If they refuse, take the case to the Energy Ombudsman who will award more and it will cost them the case fee.

I don't think the poster quite gets this forum.:rotfl:

Other than following me around, with petty postings because I am involved productively on the Forum, what expertise and advice are you going to offer?

I think that if you write to them saying you are leaving due to bad service and incorrect procedures they will be obliged to waive the termination fee.

Again, if they refuse, I would be testing this before the Energy Ombudsman. It's a route I am likely to take with ongoing problems on my relative's account.

,Im just so fed up with there inability to do simple tasks like taking the correct direct debit amount and take a direct debit on time..

I've had monthly incorrect "random" recalculations of my direct debit but the actual direct debit notice and collection mechanism has been error free. My experience of the customer service staff has been positive, that is personable staff who reinstate the previous payment without protest:D during a free 0800 call. Just maybe there is something you could do differently.

Up to you what you do but I would say Edf are "soft ball" to E.ON's "hard ball" and *probably* you are currently on a very competitive tariff. If the principle is worth any lost saving (+£25) to you then good luck in finding a better supplier. Even the top-rated supplier gets occasional adverse comment in this forum. And is rarely seen towards the top of the comparison table.

Have to agree with jalexa; EDF's DD calculations leave a LOT to be desired but generally the Customer Services people that I have talked with, have been helpful and restored my original DD without fuss or delay.Seems daft to get on your high horse & lose a competitive tariff because their computer appears to be programmed by a particularly dozy group of monkeys!!
EON however, seem to have gone downhill big time since I left them last July - reset, what reset??
  • Hi

Took some of the advice and contacted EDF again, they have refunded most of the money debited, and apologised for there poor service, and amended my direct debit.
Maybe I got on my high horse but they did annoy me, I shopped around for different tarrifs there Fix For 2012 tariff is a decent tariff and they did my Warm Home Discount Scheme payment with no fuss so am staying with them.
Thanks for your advice/help most appreciated and acted on.
    Regards
    Janey

You should have taken your complaint to the ombudsman and got some compensation from EDF.
