Cooker control knobs heat damaged

My Stoves cooker is about 10 years old, the control knobs are on a fascia panel above the top oven/grill and over time the paint on the fascia has become blistered and the knobs have started to peel. The knobs are not solid plastic but have a covering of silver plastic which has the markings on. I contacted Stoves this week and their first email just apologised that the part was no longer available and they were unable to help me. I replied that I was not happy and did they have any other knobs that would fit. They replied saying that the fascia was obsolete but they could send me a full set of replacement knobs for £62! I have written back saying that I am not prepared to pay for them as they were clearly unsuitable for use on a cooker in the first place.
Does anyone have any idea if I have any rights in this case, I know that the advice says to complain within 6 years but the problem was not so bad then. If the coating peels off the oven controls I won't be able to regulate the temperature properly and I do a lot of baking so this is important to me.
Thanks, Jane

Absolutrely no rights.
You're complaining about a cosmetic issue on a decade old appliance.
Even if you were within the 6 years, you would have to contact the company who sold it to you to exercise any rights you may have, not the manufacturer - and I still wouldn't fancy your chances.0 -
After looking at the knobs for the last ten years you could put marks on the knobs at the points relating to the temps you need.
You did well out of this appliance and as you must know everything wears with time, the knobs were fit for purpose so just accept that things get old.0 -
I dont think you have a leg to stand on.
The question is,how did they become so discoloured? Could it be that the cooker isnt sitting level? Have you checked it? What about the gaskets on the oven door?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
I do remember a thread like this ages ago and the OP managed to get a new set of knobs for his Stoves cooker FOC. Worth asking them.0

What is a 'reasonable' lifespan for a cooker? I'd say 10 years is a fair innings, especially for cosmetic damage. Depends somewhat on the type of machine and original cost - a £9000 AGA should outlive a £200 Argos special.
EDIT - Stoves website suggests they come with 5yr parts warranty, and that you can then buy upto another 5 years - don't suppose you bought the extended warranty, did you?0 -

Thanks, JaneWhen your life is a mess, stop and think what you are doing before bringing more kids into it, it's not fair on them.
GLAD NOT TO BE A MEMBER OF THE "ENTITLED TO " UNDER CLASS0 -
