Credit Card at 17 Years Old MBNA

in Credit cards
Hi All,
When I was 17 years old (Approximately 8 years ago), I was in an airport about to take off to Florida. At this point a lady approached me who worked for MBNA..She sold me all the benefits of MBNA and then asked if I would like to "Sign up to receive the offers they had". As a naive 17 year old, I just signed on the dotted line, didn't even read what it said, didn't read the small print and thought nothing would come of it (Just wanted to get rid of her too be honest as she was really annoying, pushy and wouldn't go away)..When I got back from my holiday I was greeted with an envelope with a card in it from MBNA. I had apparently signed up for a credit card, which she did not advise me of at the time. She made it out I was signing to get more information to see if I wanted the card.
Anyway, at this point I just presumed if I never used it then nothing would ever come of it..I cut the card up straight away and tossed it in the bin..
I have emailed MBNA a couple of times but still haven't got any form of reply or even acknowledgement of my contact. (I currently live in australia and will be here for a few months more so contacting via phone isn't really a viable option).
(Do apologise for the long story, but wanted to get all the info out there)
Question: I just recently checked my credit rating and the card is actually still on my credit rating. I have two questions really. The first one being that as credit is pretty hard to come by nowadays and I will be doing my masters degree starting september, would it be as simple as just contacting them and asking them to send a new card out? If they are unable to do this, would it be possible to have it removed from my credit rating?
I do understand that there won't be a definite answer for this question, but just looking for a bit of impartial advice on the situation.
Thanks in advance,
John

Just give them a ring and if the account is still active after all this time, they'll send you a card. If they cannot do this, you can close the account, and after a specific time (6 years I think, but could be more, could be less, depending on the status of the card) then it can be removed.

I imagine they have at sometime sent you out a new card, your old one would not have lasted 6 years. Have you moved house?0

I believe that if you never used it, they wouldn't have sent you a new card. Maybe a letter asking that if you still wanted it, you would have to call them up.
If you didn't respond they may still just have it as an inactive account which you will have to phone up (or write to) to close.0 -
Lets see if I have this right.
When you were 17 years old you gave some details to a lady at an airport when you were off on holiday to Florida as a result of which you say a credit card was issued. When you received this card you simply cut it up and threw it in the bin. Why did you cut it up and throw it in the bin?
8 years later you now live in Australia where, for some reason, you have suddenly decided to check your UK credit report and have found this card listed. What does your credit report have to say abouth this card? Credit limit? Balance? Payment record? What address is shown for it? Is this address still current for you or your family?
If they fiind out/have found out that you were only 17 when you applied for the card it will be cancelled as the contract would be unenforceable. Did you give an incorrect date of birth to the woman at the airport. It would be fraud if you did.0
