Seems like quite a few people on HDUK in various HMV stores have picked this up from a display and have been refused a sale:

It was part of my management training for another retailer the other problem was if a store was caught selling pre release and the manager moved to another store that store too would never get titles for release day. I was basically told it follows you around like a black cloud.
Not only that but what if the purchaser bought the DVD/Game etc & ripped it & made illigal copies to sell or uploaded it to a torrent?....The manufacturing company would stand to loose thousands,if not millions,of pounds/dollars/yen....0 -
I love the fact that most on this forum would be normally complaining to the hilt against very similar situations/misprices etc. however for some reason as soon as hmv is mentioned the OP is told to stop being melodramatic and take it like a man.
Personally i would have said 'fair enough' and left it at that however if some monkey puts it out on the shelf and a customer picks it up I think you have every right to complain. There must be some made up law somewhere along the lines of that pathetic 'loss of bargain' thing that could be applied here.
Incidentally a vaguely similar thing happened to me in hmv the other day. There was a very big "3 for £20" section, all blu-ray discs. I picked up 3 and took them to the counter. I was told that unfortunately these had been put on that shelf (and stickered) in error so sorry about that.
As I said, I said fair enough and carried on with my day but most on here would be demanding to get at the price advertised etc. so perhaps hmv sponsor mse?0 -

I'd hope it's more a case that people on this forum uphold consumer rights, rather than spreading lies, so while it's annoying that it happened, there were no breaches of rights, and HMV (or indeed any retailer in this situation) had a legitimate reason to refuse the sale, and the sales assistant should be commended for doing their job properly.0
