Quick but stupid question

Just been on a website and it`s told me that my cookies are disabled in my browser.Had my pc for 8 years now and I still dont understand what a cookie is unless it`s chocolate chip!

Where do I turn them on at? I daren`t click on anything cos I dont know what it`ll do.

Any help please?

  • lots if explanations here:

    http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&defl=en&q=define:Cookie&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title

Unless you definitely need the cookie I would be inclined not to allow the site to install a cookie - I use firefox which makes cookie control very easy - I allow only cookies that are 100% essential.

There can be negative aspect to cookies

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying

  • check the links - usually it'll be under options (sometimes tools then options) and then usually privacy.

I'm off to bed can anyone else help further.

It'll depend which browser you are using :

    Internet Explorer
    Opera
    Firefox

    Which is it

  • OK

go to tools, then internet options, go to the privacy tab, then go to advanced, and then put a dot in prompt for both 1st and 3rd party cookies.

This way it will ask every time and as I said earlier I would deny if you don't need to allow them and accept (for session only if it gives the option - firefox does - haven't used Internet Explorer for 6 and a half years and wouldn't touch it with the largest barge pole made by man) for sites where you will need them - banking sites won't work without and I suspect you MAY have to allow them for Quidco.

    Now definitely off to bed.
