Friends son got two speeding tickets within 1 year of passing his test. He had to reapply for a provisional license, re-take the theory and then re-take his practical (which he then failed first off) It involved all the cost of each stage mentioned plus a huge hike in his already expensive insurance. :sad:0

worried about him retaking the theory test as he is dyslexic and will find it hard.. plus the pressure on him...
think i still have a theory test cd rom which should help..'
funny to think although he has passed there is a chance he would fail the practical lol.. :j OFFICIAL DFW NERD NO 159 PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH OUR DEBTS:beer: :j

A few years ago I was pulled up for over 40 in a temporary 40. Roadworks on a non busy dual road - police waiting over the hill.
Anyway, I couldn't produce my licence as it was already at DVLA for change of address. There was no way I could produce in 7 days as DVLA were waiting for me to send photo. Even if I sent photo that day turnaround was mre than 7 days. Instead of police verifying that licence was with DVLA case had to go to court.
I coudn't( &didn't want to) go to court so I filled in the court forms stating my licence was at DVLA and even included envelope with datestamp when my licence was returned. My reasons were ignored, I got 4 points £60 fine.
When the fine came through there were 7 days to pay. So not even enough time for me to challenge it.
If you had opted to go to Court, you would have bought yourself enough time to get the licence back. You could then have tried to have it withdrawn beforehand by producing your licence or you could have produced it to the police liaison officer at the court on the day of the hearing and the case would have been withdrawn there and then. In the alternative, by turning up with the licence and your mitigation, you had more chance of your special reasons being taken on board.
However, your situation is different to the OP's and I think their OH will find it harder to sustain a special reasons argument as it is the responsibility of the driver to ensure they are insured.0 -

Possibly, I would have had a better outcome if I had attended court. Pretty sure I had to post my licence to them anyway. One of the reasons I didn't attend was that I had left it a couple of months since first sending my licence to DVLA and them asking for a photo, so wasn't sure I wouldn't get penalised for that.0 -
upon passing the practical test everyone receives literature explaining that amongst other things they are on a probationary period of 2 years.
6 penalty points withing this probationary period does and will make you take the test again theory and practical.
i have known this happen several times,
i have never heard of anyone being allowed to get away with it.
i know of a girl that had 6 penalty points the last 3 being 2 weeks before her 2 years was up.
she had to resit theory and take the practical test again, she was ok passed them both again easily.
