How can I find the MAC code of my laptop?

I have a Toshiba Laptop which I got at Xmas. It has XP Media as its OS.
I am trying to connect it to an existing wireless router, which needs the MAC code of this laptop so that I can add this to the "allowed MAC " list.
This laptop has a built in wi-fi.
Thank you.

Go to Start > Run > type cmd (in the box) then type in ipconfig

This should give you info including your IP address and you MAC code, it will be something like 00-65-EF-12-EC-13

I expect you will have to use the /all switch at the end to show the MAC addy.

    ipconfig /all

Yes, you need to type ipconfig /all

The line you're looking for is 'Physical Address'. If you need this information to add to an 'allow' list on a router, you may need to enter the 12-digit address without the dashes separating each pair.

e.g. ipconfig all gives Physical Address as: 00-1A-B2-71-C3-FA ... type 001AB271C3FA in the allow list
  • you need to encrypt it with wpa to make it secure, mac address filtering on it's own, is nowhere near secure.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
