buying clothes for a new baby

I agree with Apricot and get about 10 sleepsuits and 10 vests although tbh you can never have too many. DS was in a sleepsuit the majority of the time, I find babies much easier to handle (and change!) rather than fiddly clothes. DD was in a different pretty outfit every day LOL!
I bought newborn for DD but she never got the use of them as she was over 9lbs, so when it came to DS I never even bothered buying newborn and went straight to 0-3 (he was 8lb 13oz).

Do they need vests? Mine will be born in June. Won't it get hot in a vest and a sleepsuit?

I wouldn't bother with newborn. I had 15 vests and 15 babygrows in 0 - 3 and I had way to much. 10 is just the right amount. If baby is small you can always send someone out to buy newborn, but we were happy with things having growing room.
Don't do what I did and stock up in the sales for the next size (and I mean stocked up) as I have way to much summery stuff in 3 - 6 that's barely getting worn as he has been in it for the past month and is only just 3 months old!
Fluffnutter, they are ment to have one more layer than you are wearing, but I feel so cold compared to DH so in summer I can be wearing a vest top and cardigan and jeans and still feel chilly so I'm using room thermometers and an outside thermometer to gage temp. At the moment when it's warm and sunny I might have B in a short sleeved body suit, a short sleeved tshirts and a pair of jog guys or leggings. If I feel he gets to warm I take his tshirts off. I'm new at this so no clue either, but trust your instincts, they are usually right :£0 -
I would say get 1 pack of new born - my dd came home with her little legs barely reaching the crotch in her 0-3 month stuff and she was a good 7lb 11.
As babygrows tend to come in 3 packs I'd get 1 pack if new born and 3 packs 0-3 and a few more vest/ bodysuits. If its a really hot summe then can always just wear the vest, just the baby grow or both if its cooler
I adore babys in baby gorws and if I ever had another (not likely) I'd be in no hurry to move them into 'outfits'. I used long old fashioned nighties with elastic at the bottom during the night - super easy for night time changes as no wrestling wriggly legs back in and doing up poppers in the dark - think they were from gap and called 'baby buntings' or something.People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I would advise knowing the predicted weight in order to get correct nappy's.
Because i was 2 weeks premature i was only 4 pounds and 'newborn' nappies went up to my neck (apparantly you could hold me with one hand!)0 -

If I go full-term I reckon I'll have a whopper; it's already showing as big on the growth charts, husband's 6 ft 2 and weighed over 10 lbs when he was born
I wouldn't bother with newborn, so straight in with more 0-3. It's fine if a sleep suit is a little bit big, but useless if they're too small.fluffnutter wrote: »Do they need vests? Mine will be born in June. Won't it get hot in a vest and a sleepsuit?

Yes, you will need vests with a summer baby, they will get too hot in a sleepsuit during the day so they can just wear a vest and just a sleepsuit at night, unless it's a really hot summer when they can just wear a vest at nightAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Hi
I would say about 14 grows and vests, plus a snow suit and hat. I didn't need anything else tbh. I brought 0-3 months as I have monster children. I had 2 newborn baby grow that I was given as a birth present and he grew out of them in less than a week.0 -
as you have quite a while to go before the baby is born I'd wait & see what you are given - my daughter recently had a baby (2 months ago) and they didn't have to buy anything - he's still in tiny baby vests but 0-3 months in anything with legs (skinned rabbit anyone?) & my darling mil bought loads of winter stuff in 3-6 months just in case !!proud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0

I would say about 10 of each is about right. For those of you debating over whether to get newborn or 0-3 months. Some stores (M&S and Next) do a handy up to 1 month size which is perfect for slightly bigger babies and won't swamp teeny tinnies either. We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0

I took newborn and 0-3 to the hospital with me but DD was born at 5lb 7oz and DH had to dash out to get some 'tiny baby' sizes for her - her feet didn't even reach the crotch of the newborn babygrows. She was born in the winter but by the time she fitted into proper 0-3m clothes it was the summer and all I had for her in that size was snowsuits/tights/lined trousers etc!
So I would say not to spend/buy too much in advance, as you never know what size baby you'll have, and try to leave labels on if you can so that you can exchange for a size up or down if needs be
I also agree that zipped sleepsuits are fab! My DH would always do the popper ones up wrong, particularly at night0
