in Credit cards
Hi,
Sorry if this has been posted before or similar but I had to ring up lloyds today to make a payment to my credit card. The man asked how much id like to pay and I said £50, and was told that the maximum I could pay today was £37.15??
I asked why I couldn't pay the extra to decrease my balance and he said that I was only able to pay that amount or the full balance?
Has anyone else encountered this or have I missed something in the conversation because surely they don't expect people to pay the minimum every month??
Thanks to anyone that can help me, its really confused me.

There is no such rule. You can pay any amount you want up to the current balance.
But do Lloyds/TSB credit cards now accept payments by phone?0 -
Lies.
You should be able to pay ad hoc amounts.
Pay online???0 -
They want to earn more interest off you.0

my only thought is that they only take minimum payments via phone?
I've sent payment for another £20 online since i've been home so ill check that thats been deducted in a day or two and continue making payment that way.Still here..... but working on that!0 -
As far as I know they don't accept debit (or credit) card payments by phone at all.0

Well I pay my LTSB credit card from my LTSB current account via LTSB Phonebank
Paying via phonebank is not Lloyds/TSB credit cards accepting card payments by phone.
Paying by phonebank is instructing your bank, who also happens to be Lloyds/TSB, to make a payment from your current account to a credit card account.0 -

That's a fair point Ben, but littleskintdragon never mentioned making a card payment, so I, perhaps wrongly, assumed she was making a Phonebank payment0 -

That's quite possible actually now that you mention it. The OP is a bit vague. I assumed he had called Lloyds/TSB credit cards to make a payment to them but on re-reading the post he may well have called Phonebank to pay who knows what credit card.
Based on the first paragraph of the post, if he did call Phonebank, maybe the problem was that the available funds in his account were only £37.15 as he doesn't specificially state that this is the amount of the mimimum payment and that is why he couldn't make a larger payment.
But in a later post he says 'my only thought is that they only take minimum payments via phone?'.
Maybe he will clarify.0
