GP doesn't help, asks for money, how to complain?

Hi All,
Sorry I couldn't find any better forum so I'm trying in this forum.
I was lucky that I hadn't have to deal with crook GPs in the past so when it happened to me I was just god smacked.
Took my son to the local GP, he gave antibiotic and asked to come back after a week. Went to see him few days back and this all happened.
Firstly he didn't look at his symptoms at all and keep typing on his computer all the time.
Then he wrote that patient is getting better.
When I complained, he just kept murmuring something and didn't listen.
Then I asked to give me in writing that he is not feeling well so that I could show to his school but he refused to give me any notes and asked for money instead.
Is it a practice to ask for money to give it in writing that patient is sick? Or did he ask for bribery?
Next I asked him to refer me to a specialist for which he said he will pass it to Nurse.
I called surgery to find out the progress with referral to specialist but after 3-4 calls no one gave me any definite answer on what is going on.
Went to Surgery again and they refused to refer to any specialist and they didn’t even bother to reply.
Having lost all hope I decided to visit A&E in nearest hospital, I wasn’t able to get any specialist to look at him but they gave him some medicine.
Even doctors at A&E were surprised at GP’s attitude. They even called the Surgery but no one picked up phone. They also informed that GP should not have asked for money to give a note to me stating that my son is sick.
At the end of all this I just feel like whacking this GP.
I checked out NHS complain system and it seems it is more incompetent that this GP. I read comment’s on NHS website itself and everyone said just stay away from the complain system as it will not help.
Tomorrow I’m going to see a specialist as private patient as I don’t have any insurance.
Could anyone one please let me know what to do with this evil GP? I’m not just going to sit idle and suffer.
You sound like a nightmare. Thankfully you've seen sense and decided to do the NHS a favour by going private."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
So your GP is crooked, wants a bribe, you want to assault him, he is evil. He prescribed antibiotics without looking at his symptoms, When you went back you were dissatisfied, he murmured something but you did not ask what. You then wanted a specialist at the hospital. Oh and the complaint system is "incompetent"
You ask what to do. If you believe all of what you have written then you should complain. This page gives advice http://www.nhs.uk/choiceintheNHS/Rightsandpledges/complaints/Pages/NHScomplaints.aspx
You should also register with another GP.0 -

Just maybe your son was getting better?Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
We have just had and article in our local paper about people delaying urgent treatment by using A&E for unnecessary none urgent problems, the hospital has requested that no one uses A&E for anything minor that can be treated by a GP.0

Tx all for nice replies, some replies are eye opener.
About Sick Note. Sorry I was not aware of this. I should read the NHS constitution to find out what is covered and what we have to pay.
Here are 2 things which still bother me
1) He refused to treat my son further and he falsified the medical record by updating the comment that "patient is getting better".
2) He refused to refer to a specialist when there is an urgent need.
He has toe nail ingrown problem and whole toe is swollen and he is in constant pain. It has been a problem for past 2 weeks since I went to the GP. It can't be cured with antibiotic and it certainly needs a specialist attention. So he should have referred to the specialist.
I've already registered to another GP today and back to square one again.0 -
Take him to a chiropodist. Job done.0

Antibiotics carry on working once the course has finished. I don't think you need a specialist for an ingrowing toenail, nor do you need to go to A & E, my doctors surgery has a chiropodist on the premises. Have you asked for an appointment with one ?
As for the note for school, you write that yourself, kids don't need sick notes ! I think you're overreacting a tad.0 -
The NHS constitution won't tell you this, it's about rights and responsibilities. Not jumping to conclusions and automatically thinking the worst of people might help, as would making groundless accusations. The GP has not falsified a record, he has merely noted his clinical opinion.I should read the NHS constitution to find out what is covered and what we have to pay.
My advice? Don't cut your DS' toenails so short next time.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Is there a constitution for the NHS?
We barely have a written one for the whole country as things stand at the moment...0 -
Britain doesn't have a written constitution.
op, i think you need to get a grip. your son had an ingrowing toe nail and you demanded that he was referred to a specialist? are you for real?
i hope you had a hellish long wait at A and E, because those places are called accident and emergency for a reason - the clue is in the title. you son had not had a recent accident, nor was he suffering an emergency - unlike some people that are in A and E who are literally dieing.
no sick note needed for school, or did you want a note excusing him from PE?
our doctor also charges for letters and private medicals etc. and if needed one i would pay it.
take him to a chiropodist in future'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0
