Best bank?

Vander
I'm currently looking at opening a new current account, initially just in my own name with the intention of adding on my partner as a joint account holder later on this year when we move in together, so it will generally be a bills account.
I'm interested to find out who people bank with, how they've found the service and who they consider the best current account provider to be?
I currently use Santander as my main account (market leading products but shoddy customer service and backward processes) and HSBC as my bills account (great service but poor products).
Any suggestions for a new current account?

What are you wanting from your bank?
Customer Service? British Call Centre? Good Product Range? Online banking?
I bank with HSBC, Lloyds and Halifax! Out of them i am most happy with the service i have from HSBC. Although i am also going to open an account with The Coventry BS too and close halifax and lloyds.
Decide what you want most from the bank and im sure better replies will come0 -
Customer service is a big thing, as is a good product range, however it appears they don't go hand in hand in my experience. Where the call centres are located don't really bother me as I mainly bank online.
Views on different banks will be subjective of course!0 -
Based on that, if it was me the short list would be down to; First Direct or Coventry Building Society.
everyone will give you a biased opinion, but just going through the threads, First Direct are very highly rated and any comments regarding Coventry are also always positive, but both seem stricter on applicants0 -
Why do you want a third bank account?
Why not open a second account with one of your existing banks?
You said yourself that you do most of your banking online.0 -
I would go for HSBC or First Direct, they both offer a reliable service in my experience.0

as is a good product range,
What sort of products?
I've held my current account with Lloyds for over 40 years.
However doesn't mean that I don't shop around for financial products.
A current account is a very basic commodity.
Having an established relationship with a bank pays off when you really need help.0
