How do I re-insure a car write-off?

I'm literally going out of my head with the worry of it all so some advice would be really helpful please.

My car was an insurance economic write-off - I have asked if it was Cat C or Cat D but the garage and my insurer won't tell me. I have had VOSA do a VIC check on it which it passed. I was found not at fault - the other guy went into the back of me and admitted full liability.

The garage said the damage was confined to the spare wheel well in the boot - it was concertinaed by about 2 inches. The garage said there was no structural damage and the car was safe to drive.

I have sent the car for an MOT. But I have read a number of posts here becuase I have been trying to arrange insurance but I am getting refused. I don't know if this is becuase the MOT has not been finished yet or if there's something I don't know that I'm supposed to do.

Many thanks.

if its had a vic check then its classed as a cat c
the concertina needs repairing otherwise you have lost your safety crumple area if hit again
why not just reinsure with your current insurer

I cancelled my insurance as I had it off the road for a while - I'm trying to get it re-insured. So is it just an MOT it needs to be able to re-insure?

    yes
but as i said you should have repaired the crumple zone
this is why most insurers are refusing to sell salvage back to owners

very few companies care about the write off status of your car so just use the normal routes but before you buy read the general assumptions/T&C to make sure you haven't picked one of the few that do care
  • My car crash dealers have said MY car is a CAT D.
They said should get £600 minus £200 for buying it back.
    should i do it?
Will my insurance go up, I had a No Fault Claim 2010?
And come to selling will i have to declare to new owner.
any other matters i need to think off?

Or would i be better getting a qoute from repair shops and then getting repaired from third party?

My MOT guy wouldnt pass a car with a crumpled floor/wheel well. You need to get it straightened or replaced.
