Re: insurance, try Admiral. Your son could also try doing Pass Plus or IAM advanced driving, these MAY make a reasonable difference to the insurance costs (and if he's a safer driver as a result, he'll be less likely to lose that no claims bonus).

Re: why his sister has no problem finding a credit card... she's a student. The market for student accounts is very competitive because banks see students as potentially valuable customers in the future. Apparently the same does not apply to young people in employment...

  • Yup we checked on that. It hardly makes a difference. But if he cannot get his credit card or loan he might as well do the advanced driving and keep on saving.

Yeah we thought that as well. Students are potential high earners in the future.

pass plus will take 10-20% off. with the right insurer. Ones like Zurich.
  • UK007BullDog, have you considered Direct Line for insurance. They give named drivers no claims on their policies. The no claims is only effective on Direct Line policies, but you could create a policy in your name with your son as a named driver for the 1st year and then he could have the policy in his name ater the 1st year. That should reduce the overall cost of insurance for your son.
    Hope that helps
