If you can, go there and visit in person, it is unlikely but if they are not answering your call because they are trying to make things take longer (and so null and void your cancellation period) then visiting them in person would prevent this.

It could also be they are very busy and may not get back to you for days or that the person you have been trying to speak to has gone on holiday or is ill for a while and its important to get this sorted as soon as you can.

Hi she phoned back said she had to speak to the owner. Spoke again last night and said I can had in 3 months notice to terminate contract and still use the gym in the meantime. Stupid me got upset 1 being relieved and 2 feel embarrassed to go back and face her. She was very understanding and I think she knew she talked me into it in the first place. She calling back on Monday. Any idea on how to word my letter. Thanks guys! You have really helped!

no offence but you are a grown up.
you went into the gym and could have walked away at any time.
you dont need anything in the letter, except to state you are giving 3 months notice from X date to X date.

Yeah that's a fair point. But i did try to walk away and said I'll think about it. She said what's their to think about. I then should have Left but I felt obliged after she spent so much time talking to me and got carried away in the moment. Thankfully I have a way out and needless to say I won't be making that mistake again.

Look up your consumer rights - I have a feeling that I have read in the past a consumer has a right to cancel a DD contract within 14 days. It really should be in the (probably very) small print of your contract.

If its not I would also question if the company are in breech of any regulations by not informing you of the cancellation policy.

    I could well be wrong......

Just to up date you all. Just had an email confirming that my last direct debit payment will be in June. So that's my 3 months cancellation letter been received. Got to say a weight has been lifted and I will never do anything stupid like that again. Thanks for your help everyone.

Good to know you managed to get out of it, sort of. Mind you, still a pretty expensive lesson to learn! But a good reminder for the rest of us.
