DD is applying for a residential Access to HE course and they need to know if family income is over £18,000. She will be 20 soon.
No guidance on the form as confirmation to be sought later.
We and the college are in Wales.
Do I include my DLA ? (as that brings us just over the threshold by £'s and thus she is not eligible). We are on Income Support. I know it is a lot of govt. £ and we are grateful for it. There are other kids at home. (Helpful advice please, most people on DLA are not scroungers, have worked and paid taxes and the benefits board has turned very nasty.)
Many Thanks.

Must firstly state I know nothing about residential access to HE or colleges in Wales.
Re the DLA I would assume that you do not include it as it is given to you for a specific purpose-a 'disability' and shouldn't be classed as 'available' income.
Just a guess mind-hopefully someone will be along soon who knows for sure

You may have to declare it on the form -but they would disregard it because it is for a disability

I'm assuming that you're talking about Coleg Harlech and, if so, their website says that there is a sliding scale of help for students from families with household income over £18,000. As to whether DLA is included in household income (or any other benefits for that matter) I'd give them a ring and ask.

Thanks both of you. They were very helpful on the phone.Apparently it meant taxable income but they are sending a finance guide for the next stage of forms out to me now. I hope this helps anyone else wondering about including DLA,Child Benefit,Tax Credits etc which can all mount up. It is the income on your Tax Credits assessment form that counts ie wages, incapacity benefit etc.
