woop woop woop, i have rung them again and this timei spoke to someone who knew about the exemption the the new rule and has now adjusted my award, i will now be entitled to the WTC again. So for anyone else who knows they are entitled DONT GIVE UP!!!
Save yourself numerous calls, if the adviser doesn't know, insist on speaking to a manager, (make sure you take names), and if they don't know ask to speak to a complaints manager.

I am in this position and have called them a moment ago but was told my award will end on 4th April. I tried to explain the recent ruling but they had none of it saying the new rule was not true lol. Ill try again and this time use the advice of previous poster.

I thought it worth keeping this at the top for anyone else affected.

Other people on other forums are experiencing the same thing, it would be useful if Martin Lewis and his team could draw attention to this change as it is very important for carers.

How many hours a week do parents care for THEIR children when they aren't disabled?
When your life is a mess, stop and think what you are doing before bringing more kids into it, it's not fair on them.

I wanted to bump this up, as I have just done a calculation on the tax credits website and not once does it mention the new rule, in fact it got to the end and told me we wouldn't get anything (as it happens my partner works 38 hours but out of curiosity I changed it to 20)

I don't know if they are going to add anything onto their system for this in future but it could mean A LOT of people missing out!

Everything will be ok in the end, and if it isn't ok then it isn't the end :)

Agree with this, could it be included in the news letter some how?

Soapn, as the parent of a child on the Autism spectrum who is entitled to HRC DLA, I do find your remark rather offensive. I would much rather have my son able to do everything himself, believe me!

SuziQ ignore this poster. Soapn is a clueless troll who is obsessed with all benefit claimants.

This carers allowance rule is a late addition it will be of no surprise that the helpline will know nothing of it. Also the onus is on the client to claim and the backdating limits have been reduced to one month so please make your claims.

The helpline will not make the decision and HMRC do not have the information to identify carers who may be entitled and when they catch up HMRC will probably deny that you were misinformed.
