Which areas to avoid around North Kent?

By quiet I mean not having a car go past my house every flipping minute at weekends and I am also over the flight path to City Airport at canary Wharf and every 3 minutes I have a plane going overhead. When we were younger it was not such a problem but now it is starting to grate and I would like a more woody area to be able to take walks and have a dog as well in the future.
I currently have a town house and the stairs are starting to be a pain as well, my dodgy hip and OH dodgy knee dont help matters. So really a nice cottage or just a regular house will do. Dont even need a overly large garden as I dont want the burden of that in the future either. But I think the main hurdle is the rise of house prices and it does not seem to stop.
Thanks again for your comments. I will have a look online to see what the prices are like in all those areas. The council websites should also hopefully have some pictures of the areas as well to give a rough idea, and then its a trip in the car. I am going to Chiselhurst next weekend to have a look. Thanks again!0 -
to get to canary wharf from the south east it is quicker to change at Lewisham for the DLR rather than go all the way into London bridge and change for the Jubilee line, so look for a train line that goes through Lewisham if getting to Canary wharf is really important.0

Bean Village , just outside Dartford, handy for Bluewater and Kings Ferry run commuter coaches from their to Canary wharf every 10 minutes or so in the morning and then in the evening, also stops the Cannon street side of London Bridge. Cheaper than the train
. Also very near to countryside/woodland
these are the sort of houses you get

Don't see the point anymore in offering advice to people who only want to be agreed with...0 -
I lived in Kent for 18 years and everytime I go back to see the family it seems worse. I would steer clear of the medway towns i.e Chatham, Gillingham.
Rainham is better as well as Hempstead Heath.
Good luck0 -
how much is it you are looking to spend? I live in bromley and work at an estate agents there, and some areas are really nice. Somewhere like Orpington has nice areas too...so it's always a possibility to look there0

Swanley offers comparatively good value for money and is well placed with train to Victoria 30mins, Junc 3 of M25 and M20/A20 all close by.0

Funny because Im looking at the exact same as you mate
Petts Wood is definitely very nice but the prices have just decided to skip over SDT now. A good 3bed is now going at 270 asking, which is a pain.
Orpington is variable but you can definitely get 3bed stuff under the 250 stamp duty. It really depends on your price range as maybe the SDT doesnt matter at all?
I'd personally steer well clear of Dartford and Swanley. I live in Bromley at the moment BTW.
Sevenoaks is worth considering. Or even as far as Tonbridge (which we are looking into) which again is variable.0 -
Also am looking in north Kent for poperty, and don't know the area! I've been there once - to Rochester which has a lovely high street. Is the town nice to live in? What are the villages around there like? Whats Maidstone Like?
I need somewhere with good schools, and fairly close to child-orientated facilities. ie. swimming pool, sports clubs etc. Also, are there any good cycle paths around, as we've just brought a roof rack for the bike.
I think I'm a village/small town type of person.
Any help appreciated! Thanks!0 -
Lioncub, perfect place for you would be Upchurch. Worth checking out for sure.
Rochester is nice in places but far too close to the likes of Chatham/Strood which IMO quite bad areas. Maidstone is ok, a fairly large town. There will be some nice villages outside of the town.0
