I am a landlord and would replace sealant myself at a cost of £2-4 maximum;the guy is a joke and like so many takes but does not put back.Send his details and your rent details to the HMRC to make sure he is taxed correctly.

I'm a landlord and replace sealant at least yearly as even the expensive stuff gets mouldy quickly. I can't believe some landlords. They're on a different planet.

Mould is NEVER a tenant's fault, unless they have been boiling kettles perpetually in the bathroom. He can't charge for this: simple as. Politely point this out, but he sounds either nasty or a buffoon, and so the bad news is, i suspect he will issue retaliatory notice.

On a a general note it is not true to say that "mould is never a Ts fault". rentergirl perhaps needs to read up on damp, condensation and mould issues

There are two separate issues for the OP and their LL - one is the condensation /mould issue and the other is sealant which was clearly not doing the job it was supposed to be doing.

Don't leave the door open. Just leave the fan running slightly longer.

Rentergirl you have stated this a few times, but it's not true I'm afraid. T's can take reasonable and various to measures to prevent mould.

Interesting...we had an issue a couple of years back where the fan wasn't shifting the correct volume of air and mould started to build up...All of the sealant went mouldy and needed replacing. As it was the fan that was the cause, we weren't charged for repairing the sealant...but I imagine it's possible to cause this through just not ventilating properly.

Utter rubbish, I can't think of anything else to add.
    It's someone else's fault.

Sorry to hijack, but can I ask what these are? I'm living in rented accommodation at the moment and we seem to be using anti-mould spray on an almost weekly basis! We keep the window ajar constantly to help ventilate and the heating is currently on for at least a couple of hours each day (an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening). We've also recently discovered that the bathroom does have a fan, which turns off a certain length of time after the light is switched off, so that's now on!

Our last inspection mentioned mould in the bathroom, so I'm wondering what we can do to prevent this in the future?
You were only killing time and it'll kill you right back
