Card fraud

When you buy online with a credit or debit card, what's to stop a dishonest employee/company using your card details to pay for stuff over the net? Sometimes transactions are made more secure by asking for your mastercode but not often.
Asking because I just had dealings with a company which I have a bad gut feeling about :(

There's nothing to stop anyone who has your card details using them, just monitor your account closely and let your card issuer know if there are any transactions you don't recognise.
