Time to try for a better card? or wait longer?

I am thinking about trying to get a better card with a better APR, even though I pay in full, if I did need to make a bigger purchase I would get hammered with my current APR's.
The plan would be to replace one of my existing cards with a mainstream card. Is it worth giving a go yet or best to wait a bit longer?
My credit report has 1 default showing, 4 years old.
My current position is;
Vanquis since 7/11 limit £1000 paid in full every month.
Aqua since 7/11 limit £500 paid in full every month.
Capital One since 9/11 £200 paid in full every month.
I have been with my bank for 5 years holding a basic account.
I got a current account with them 7/11 and have a £150 overdraft facility that I have never used.
If I give it a go, I would try with my bank (Halifax) but not sure which is best to go for. Possibly the All in One?
I also have a mobile contract since January this year and my income is 16500 a year. Everything on my credit report is all green ticks, only the 4 year old default holding it back.
Any advice appreciated.

The Default ticker on CC is going to be major hinderance, I would suguest you try the barclay card pre approval system. It is might give you an idea of what card you are entitled too.I owe £3233 @ 0%0

I tried the pre approval thing on fluid.co.uk it said I wouldn't qualify for their card but I had a high chance of being accepted for Halifax All in One, BOS All in One, Barclaycard Gold and Barclaycard Initial.
So I went to the Barclaycard site and tried the pre approval for their cards and it said I didn't qualify for any of them. So not sure whether it may be worth a punt to go for the Halifax card as I bank with them, or wait another few months and continue the green ticks columns on my credit report.
I had hoped that a default over 4 years old might not matter as much now due to the improvements I have managed to make over the last 9 months on my report.0
