house paid off

we have had a new house built, and the cost to builder was in stages
i.e stage 1 - purchase of plot, then stage 2 blockwork, etc etc
we have the title deeds to say we own all the ground etc but now that the total price is paid, we dont have any more paperwork as such to say that the house is all ours.

will i have to go back to our solicitor about this

  • You own the ground, therefore you own the house that is built on it - simple as that. There are no separate "deeds" for a house. You only ever buy land and the house comes with the land because it is fixed to it. Usually you pay more for land with a house on it!

    The Land Registry entries will only show the land - that doesn't matter - eventually the Ordnance Survey will notice that there is a house there and will provide the Land Registry with an updated plan showing the house on it but this could take many years.

  • thanks Richard. i did kind of think that but wanted to make sure. i mean we have the NHCB and completiion certificate and the ground deeds upstairs and all the receipts from the builders etc.

    just as long as i dont need to do anything else.
