Help - Warrent For Arrest- Court Fine

Hello there.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Long story short.

My misses received a fine of £500 for non payment of tv license, she was paying small amounts of each week/month.

However without me knowing she must have stopped/

She is at work but i have just had a nice knock at the door by 2 non-uniformed officers, asking for my misses, when i said she wasnt in they gave me a warrant telling me to give it to her, the warrant says contact the court asap.

It says in bold letters, "a warrant has been issued for your arrest"

Who were the two people at the door?
Were they bailiffs?
We can afford £100 Per-month payments but im not sure they are interested.

What going to happen

  • She's going to get arrested!

The only thing she can do is surrender herself to where it states on the warrant before they come for her again.

Your wife evidently thought the powers that be would forget about it. Things don't work that way in this country.

if she was paying a small amount and missed a couple of payments or was late, the whole amount is due-- warrent for arrest-- yes, they were court bailiffs, will they accept 100 quid a month, more than likely, debt will be paid within 6 months, this im sure would be acceptable as long as you make 1st payment straight away- ask for 70 a month 1st and see what they say

They can take her i don`t mind, but can they take my stuff?

I have rang them and they said they will come back tomorrow and do an income and expenditure form.

And i offered them £200 now and £100 for 3 months

As she didn't pay the TV Licence, I'd assume she owns the TV, so they could take that!

yes they cam levy goods to the value of debt-- more than likely a walking possession, remember goods only fetch about 20% of value at auction so dont be surprised if about £2000 of goods are levied

And i offered them £200 now and £100 for 3 months

if they dont accept this tell them to cart her away!!! i would offer 100 now and 100 for 4 months

Hmm, i assume they will try and settle on a3 month payment plan rather than taking my stuff first?

Don't be afraid to go to Court.
It sounds like the initial fine was imposed without your wife being present in Court. They assume how much you earn and set a fine accordingly.
If you go to Court, you have to show income and expenditure and so usually the fine is lower.
If she appears in court, says she is very sorry for not keeping up the payments, she may be able to get some of the fine 'remitted' (wiped out) it is set to high for your income.

Worth a try and the worst that will happen is that she just keeps paying the original fine.
(Sorry, but they are unlikely to accept your wife as payment):rotfl:
