Expensive Boiler Replacement?
Just had a new boiler installed, apparently old one was knackered, but it wasn't actually that old, maybe 7 years. According to the repair man the previous one might not have had a flush through the system and it was now full of sludge!
Anyway, identical boiler replacement (Keston c36) and a flush... all for £2600! Looking on how much time he's spent here, it really does seem like a lot of money... any views?
Sorry to ask here, but it seems like a friendly forum!
Thanks

Sorry but who told you it was knackered, and why would you replace it with the same model, never heard of Keston until today.
PS My Ideal Classic is 15 years old and still going strong, mind you its not a Prescott boiler. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Keston are a well known manuf of boilers.

I'm not sure how a boiler can be "knackered" unless the parts are no longer available or it is beyond economic repair.
For new boilers, good quality installation, design and water quality are paramount.
Get it cheap and you will regret it.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Sorry to hear about your boiler experience. Seven years is a very short lifespan indeed for a boiler! What most people don't realise is that fitting a new boiler is completely pointless if your central heating system is already full of sludge corrosion. Sorry to say this, but my guess is that a thorough central heating powerflush and boiler overhaul is what was really required. However, a lot of plumbers and heating companies make most of their money installing boilers. However, on a positive note, here is a real top tip...Always Always top up your central heating inhibitor. Its easy to do and costs under £20, but it will protect against system sludge build up once you have had a powerflush and will ensure a healthy flow in the system (prolonged pump and heat exchanger life too!). Hope this helps0

I'm surprised it lasted 7 years to be honest.0

Keaton is one of the worst boilers out there. They are owned by Ideal. Which Keston did you have fitted?0

Busted Keaton, ha ha, get it?That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I've had plenty of kestons blown very expensive heat exchangers, not worth repairing tbh. Not a boiler anyone would fit if there were any other flueing options.0

After the boiler has been installed, isn't it a bit late to be asking if it is a fair price? You have presumably already agreed the price with the installer! No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Looks like you've been robbed to price of £600 for a days work , boiler/materials and chemicals to do the flush probs in the region of £1300.00 id say at most £500-700 for a good days work and flush so my reckoning the price shouldve been around £2000. probs should have shopped around got 2-3 quotes, i always advise my customers to get a few quotes. YOU WIN SOME AND YOU LOOSE SOME !0
