A (not so) crazy idea!

Bot sure if this has been suggested previously or is even already happening.
I recently have been ridiculously busy with a new job and with finances tight I went over my overdraft limit incurring a charge. Grrrr!
On the same day I had nearly reached the data limit on my data plan with my mobile phone company and received a text warning me I was about to go over my limit.
Surely banks could win a few friends (ok, they will not gather so much in charges) and be seen as less of an enemy if they gave us warning?
Just a thought...

Several banks already do this. They can send you a text message when your balance drops below a certain amount, -you tell them what this amount should be. First Direct have been doing it for years.0

Hi Treeboy
Who do you bank with? I thought that with many you could now set up text alerts. TBH a spreadsheet/some home finance software/budget would help show how close you are to your account limits. Maybe log in to your bank and see if there is an option to receive text alerts.

Despite the banks being economy wrecking, bonus-paying parasites on an exil axis with MPs, journalists and estate agents ... many already do this.0

And then you get complaints because some shops/firms delay putting their payments through and you STILL go O/D and incur chargesThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I would say those commas are misplaced. LOL!£2 coin savings = zero (I never get any £2 coins 'cos the rest of you are hogging them in your piggy banks!) :rotfl:0 -
Lloyds TSB does this, you just set the alert on-line for the balance you want to know about and they text you when you have reached it. Of course if there are payments in the pipeline that still won't help you but if you set it high enough it will warn you in time for you to take care until payday, if that's what you want.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

I don't think they are. But the construction of the sentence isn't brilliant.0
