Not to be rude, but when did this website become about correcting peoples grammar/spelling?

They could talk like a teenager for all I care as long as people help save me money...

Actually my two teenagers speak very well!

It did actually take a good few seconds for me to realise what that meant! haha

I don't have a mobile phone, so it took me 20 minutes to work out how to write it :o

An using the word Math is insulting to the nations English skills.

Thank you for taking some time out of cleaning the walls of your glass house to share your wisdom with us.

I suspect that the word you were looking for was "and" but I may be mistaken because anyone with a grasp of basic English skills would know not to start a sentence with a conjunction.

Why have you capitalised "Math"? I would have been tempted to leave it all in lower case since it is not a proper noun. I would also have put it in quotation marks if I was referencing something that someone else had said.

I also believe you would have been better using "nation's" as opposed to "nations" since you are, afterall, talking about the English skills of the nation.

In summary I would have said:

Using the word "math" is insulting to the nation's English skills.

There may even be further improvements to make on your sentence but i think I would score a little higher on a test with my effort.

Now in response to the OP, I have been comparing the cost per 100g for a short while now and already I have noticed that sometimes the supermarkets try to confuse you by throwing in random "£x per 50g", "£y per each" so you have to be on the ball at all times to be sure you are getting the best value.

The moral of the story is that you probably shouldn't correct spelling and/or punctuation for other people!

Though I agree with the sentiment - it wasn't a helpful post and I hope the OP hasn't been put off from posting.

I'm sure that this has been brought up before and there is probably a thread that this post should be merged into however, my laziness and /or lack of search-fu has evaded me so I'm posting a new thread.

Once upn a time, a large packet of beef mince at Tesco was 1kg - then it became 900g - now it's 830g - for pretty much the same price. (It's been a 'buy 12 pay £x' for so long I've lost track)-But I have noticed the reduction on wieght being purchased (You really thought I didn't Tesco - shame on you!)

Added to that, items (sharwoods medium egg noodles anyone?) are cheaper buying 2 x 375g separately than buying them together (approx 40p)

Now I know it's nothing new, supermarkets offering 'multi buys' etc at what 'appear' to be better value, but a little bit of simple maths being applied (Nescafe instant coffee as an example - 2 jars are better value than a big tin) to single products against those 'bundled together' - could save us all, over a year, shedloads.

The point of this post? Do the math. Frankly, I'm ashamed that a major supermarket believe they can get away with this - unfortunately - I think they will. If you need assistance - please, I'm sure your fellow MSE converts will help - and if it gets beyond the (quite frankly) riddiculous state of affairs (Martin? You reading this?) that is insulting to the nations Math skill, then hopefullly Mr MSE will take up the baton.

Edit: I should point out that the medium egg noodles ar not the only example I have found of the buying more smaller quantities is better value (try Nescafe Coffee) or that these figures are based on my online shop - or that other supermarkets may well be guilty also - just felt the urge for this edit 'tis all

Very hard to do the sums when they seem to deliberately hide the price per 100ml/g or price per 100 sheets/unit. Or worse still not show the change the "offer" actually makes to the total.

Remember buying a 4 roll pack of loo rolls on a 3 for 2 basis that worked out cheaper than the 9 roll pack with 3 extra free. But with all the confusing and different pack sizes the mental arithmetic needed is a headache in the making.

I always take my calculator with me when shopping to do the math or maths or sums or whatever.

Need to economise and won't let the supermarkets get the better of me !!
