"Goodwill Gesture"

Hello,

I sent a complaint off to RBS in hope of receiving a PPI refund. They wrote back to me today offering me £800+ as a 'goodwill gesture' & 'without accepting any liability'.

I'm just wondering if I should take this offer or go to the ombudsman. I'm worried about rejecting it & ending up with nothing.

Any advice/experience would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Dan

Very much depends on how strong you feel your case is, and how much you think they should refund.

If you have clear proof of a missale and the amount you paid in premiums was substantially more than they've offered then it's worth pressing them. However, if your evidence is rather limited, and the amounts are similar, it might be better to take the offer.

If you reject the offer and go to the ombudsman then they can withdraw the goodwill offer. It doesnt happen often. However, a scenario where it could happen is if they havent investigated your complaint but are auto-paying out (very common with banks at the moment). If you then go to the FOS, it will then be investigated and it may be that the evidence points to you not being mis-sold and no wrong doing took place and no award is required.

Why do you think that their offer is wrong?
