I NEED a car because I am a MOBILE hairdresser!
And as for owing my mother-in-law cash for the car that is broken, once the private plate and the car has been sold, that should be her paid off.
I can't wait to save up for a car and catch the bus to every single client.
I earn a good wage, enough to afford a monthly payment for a loan, just not enough to buy a car outright or to pay £1000 to have a new engine.
So again, thank you for your fantastic judgemental replies!

Unfortunately whether or not you need a car you are going to have next to no chance of getting a commercial loan of £2k at the current time if you have only been discharged from bankruptcy for less than 2years.
Can you speak to your family member and see if they will be happy for you to repay the money you owe them in installments?
If so then presumably you could sell your current car and private plate and use those funds to buy a cheap runaround (should be able to get something for £500/£600 or so that would get you around in the short term).
Then once you've paid off the debt to your family, you could then start saving monthly for a better car if you felt you needed one.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

Unfortunately, the fact that you NEED a car because of your job won't cut any ice with the loan companies.
Neither will it help you get a loan by bemoaning the fact that other posters on this forum point out the salient facts, whether you like it or not.
You say you earn a good wage and can afford the monthly payment. It's a pity you didn't think forward a little bit and save up some money for just this type of thing. I'm sure you didn't think your existing car would go on for ever, did you? Or maybe you did."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
