I purchased my iPhone 5 from an Apple store in the states. I think I read on this forum that insurers will only cover phones purchased in the UK. However on reading the full policy document for insure2go, I can't see any mention of requiring the phone to have been purchased in the UK. Does anyone have any experience with this issue?
Also, as she purchased the phone on my behalf, the receipt that apple emailed is in her name. Dies this mean I can't prove ownership in the event of a claim?0 -
I have read through the guide and can find little reference to insurance for children. Considering the amount of under 16s who have expensive mobiles this is a big omission. Can anyone help , we are planning on getting our son an iPhone 5 on his 15th birthday , however I cannot find any company that will insure children under 16!! If anyone has any suggestions they would be appreciated.0

After several emails I have established that ProtectYourBubble will not cover an Nexus4 that was bought from the Google Play store as they are not a UK VAT registered supplier - they're in Dublin (although one PYB email did say that was ok, but another phone call said it wasn't).
Also they insist on the IMEI number being on the proof of purchase and mine isn't.
I contacted Google and they were good enough to send an email to me with all my information (including IMEI) which I forwarded on to PYB, but they still said no.
The trouble is, they don't make this plain before you buy, only when you claim - this could be disastrous.0 -
My son and I have mobile phone insurance with Insure and Go - a good policy price (£65 a year) and a reasonable excess (£25).
My son had his iPhone stolen a couple of weeks ago, but in spite of doing all that was required (reporting within 48 hours, even though they're closed on the weekend, getting a crime number from the police, blocking the phone) we were unable to complete the claim as the phone had not been "taken from him by force". In reading the exclusions, it looks as if they would only cover theft for linked to a mugging, so I will be cancelling both policies.
I was able to claim successfully on my household insurance (Barclays), but of course the excess was much higher at £200.0 -
Following your reccomendation, I have just tried to insure my new andriod phone with Insure and Go but have given up because it is not clear wether I am allowed to insure a phone which I am purchasing through a 24 month contract. I purchased the phone through a contract with a phone company : £32/month for 24 months plus a payment of £30 for the phone. How much should I enter as the purchase price on the Insure and Go online application form? Should the purchase price be £30 or the total cost of the 24 month contract (i.e £32 x 24 plus £30 = £798) ? If they will only insure the phone price of £30 then it will not be worth it. Can anyone at MSE advise and perhaps ammend the advice on the MSE website?0

Help needed please. Staying in hospital with son in an allocated parent;s room. Popped to the kitchen for 10 20 mins came back to find my phone gone. The hospital's policy is that bedrooms cannot be locked due to fire risk.
Am insured through Lloyds current account who are refusing to pay as I did not have phone on me? Please advise.0 -

I'm confused too! My phone was free with my contract but retails at ~£500. I was just going to put in £500 since they don't pay out more than that anyway. As for proof of purchase all I have is the dispatch note. Not sure this would be enough for a claim?0 -
HI Sally
Are you referring to the phone insurance review on the page up- dated Jan 13?
I'm surprised there are only 2 companies listed and not some of the other 40 you have reviewed. Am I missing something?0 -
Sally re your post: we've just fully revamped and rewritten the
Mobile Phone Insurance guide - We'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences, particularly on how you have found dealing with companies, and if we've missed any of the goodies
Hi Sally
Is this the report dated Jan 13th? It only references 2 companies. Is there another list elsewhere or am I missing something?0 -
Just called Insure and go.
The gal there didn't seem to know much, kept checking wasn't too sure.
She said that you are not covered for theft unless there was a mugging.
Your phone was covered for loss if you had left it somewhere and went back to get it, but not on public transport and not if it had been stolen.
So... not clear, and not much covered.. and this was the highest Platinum level.
Barlcays will cover the phone, laptops etc for the same price, but £50 excess.0
