Your employee handbook is unlikely to confirm if you'll get the Queen Diamond Jubilee as an extra paid bank holiday! Your employer doesn't have to give you the bank holiday but I'd have thought they would have made a decision by now. My employer issued a staff notice and say they will give everybody the 9th bank holiday, they gave us the royal wedding last year too.

    THANK YOU!!
Yes its a serious question. I live day to day and i swear sometimes i have no ideas holidays are coming up or whatever!

So yea i needed someone to lay out what days to book off etc so by using my work holidays i can get like a week off cos i missed out last year and i want to start planning ahead this year!
Left it a bit late, IMO!

Bear in mind that it's half term that week, so all the schools will be off. And prices will go up.

It worked well last year because the wedding was around the same time as easter (?) so with all the bank holidays for easter plus the extra day for the wedding, people were able to book a couple of days annual leave and have nearly two weeks off.

Not that I benefitted at all - I was at work for the wedding and will be at work for the Jubilee... sad face.

As bren said - the close proximity of easter to the may day bank holiday already meant a good time to book days off in between for many people. When the royal wedding was announced that gave another one.

I had a fortnight off work and used only 7 days leave. That same fortnight taken mid may, say would have required 11 days.

Doesn't work the same for the jubilee because there are no other bank hols around it, but you still get an extra day if your employer recognises all bank hols.
