using the jobcentre

I will be graduating v v soon and am planning on my job search.
in the past i have had to spend around £50 on stamps, printing costs (i print at university for 5p a page as i dont have a printer), stationary and travel in order to find a job.
i wont be eligible for job seekers benefit (partner earns too much) but would i be able to use jobecentre resources? i know there is jobcentre plus which lets you look for jobs but i have heard that people can get free stamps and stationary to send off application forms, is this true? can anyone use this service? I know that finding a job can cost thousands in terms of new suits (what student has a suit??) travel etc. etc. but a little help towards things like stamps would be a godsend

I've never heard of Jobcentre Plus giving away free stamps and stationery but they do have programmes that provide this. Unfortunately, they are usually for people who have been unemployed for 6 months or more. I don't know where you live but in Newcastle we have an Access Guidance Centre attached to the University who provide really good help with jobsearch."How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and the strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these."0

Apply online - it is then free of charge.
100% of the jobs I have applied for have been through online agencies, you can do the same thing.0 -

i know it can be cheaper I think the thousands of pounds to apply for a post grad job is a bit of a stat out of context if that makes sense.
my travel card is £80 a month (i am looking for a london based job as the london waiting is worth the extra month on travel) and although i now that it can be almost free to find a job, it can cost money to find a job and i wanna save on small things.
it all adds up!
thank goodness for voip though, i got it v recently and cant believe how easy it is to phone up and ask for vacancies/have phone interviews without paying for it:A Boots Tart :A0 -
have you registered with recruitment agencies ? you can do it online and attach a copy of your cv, what about working in banking ? have been surfing for jobs for a while now0

might be a bit cynical of me but generally i find emailing recruitment agencies doesnt really get me anymore. i find it easier to stand out with a telephone call or just calling in to register.
i find that a bit about online recruitment as well. ive never got a job through email/online application forms. i always seem to shine through telephone interviews? maybe its just my strength:A Boots Tart :A0 -

In that case how are you going to spend £50 on stamps?
This doesn't make sense.
It has to be said that you sound as if you are just trying to get some free money from somewhere.
I had to give up work through ill health. I have barely any income.
I paid my own petrol 80 miles round trip for a dozen interviews for jobs, and had to buy a new suit.
At least you have your husband to support you - I don't have someone to give me money. Yet I managed to get a job.0 -

I applied for my new job in the finance sector all through recruitment agents on the net. I found it the best way to do it - to reach more people, etc.
I totally agree!0 -

That is London "weighting". I take it that your degree isn't in English!0
