Hi - I need help please. :o I encountered what i think is a serious prob with facebook just now. I am hoping that some dear soul can assist re this. I have managed to master facebook and use it purely for entering competitions - nothing more. I am not technically minded yet I do become suspicious as to whether these emails are scams or not. My security was top notch, or so I thought. However, I received an email from 'facebook' today, ...... please see below:

Dear .....

Your Facebook account was recently logged into from a computer, mobile device or other location you've never used before. For your protection, we've temporarily locked your account until you can review this activity and make sure no one is using your account without your permission.

Did you log into Facebook from a new device or an unusual location?

- If this was not you, please log into Facebook from your computer and follow the instructions provided to help you control your account information.

- If this was you, there's no need to worry. Simply log into Facebook again to get back into your account.

Well - when i tried to log in, sure enough I got another message saying someone had tried to get into my account from Germany!!! I have been told to create a new password and at the moment i am most reluctant to do this (scam maybe?) - although it seems it is from facebook - I just dont know - never know anymore what is a scam and what isnt?? I can not log in now, until I enter a new password. Simple as that.

Can really do without this at the mo :( - has anyone else had this, or is it just me. I def cannot get into facebook now, my security was good. Don't understand why i have been targetted.

Would be most grateful for any help. I try my best with computers but this sort of thing scares me. I apologise for my ignorance - but im doing my best. Can someone help me please? Alf xx

Also once you're on facebook.com (the actual site) and you've logged in securely, prolly should change your password.

For total mind, scan your computer with an antivirus software, as well as malwarebytes, see if anything is picked up.

Are you sure the email came from facebook? Generally it doesn't care where you log in from, unless you've got that type of security enabled in Facebooks settings.

EDIT - Only just noticed you got an email stating it so it could well be a scam!Only go into facebook through typing the address. My reply below may be completely irrelavent now!!!

I had a message like that when I once used my phone to log in after using my Kindle to log into Facebook,it stated I was logging in from a different place so had to log in on my computer. When I tried on my computer it stated someone had tried to log in from Ireland (my Kindle lmao and it certainly wasn't Ireland) and I needed to confirm whether it was me or not.So I confirmed it was.

It seems funny things can happen when you log in with a new (or maybe even old???) device that's 3gs enabled.

Have you logged in on a mobile device anywhere at all?

The message itself isn't a scam (I don't believe) as when I had the message I had logged in directly through the facebook address -no emails or anything similar. And it was after a message on my phone (which I logged into after using it on my Kindle which was painfully slow)

Thank you all for your kind responses.

I don't have any mobile devices - just got my wee basic phone :o. However, I took courage from your replies and got in touch with them via their website. Sure enough, I was still blocked but entered a new very very strong password and I am back in again with facebook.

However, it does make me wonder how someone in germany got my details to start with - but i am thankful to facebook, that it wasnt a scam and they warned me, to their credit. Thank you for your sound advice all of you, wouldn't have moved forward without it. Alf xx:T

Just for the record - Facebook may have changed their policy on account security.

I have no additional security settings, but last week when Facebook went down in the morning, I logged in from a proxy site and Facebook locked my account as it did not recognise the location. Insisted on the security question plus I had to change my password. I also got the same email as the op.

It really does seem to be hit and miss. I can find new locations to log in, different IP and it allows me. It's technically supposed to email me to inform me that someone has logged in from x device in x location, but quite often doesn't.

You should always surf securely, so that should be activated on facebook (https surfind) and enable notifications. You could go the whole hog with a pin number as well, but I tend to only do those two. IT will list recent connections and devices that have access too. The only problem I find is actually finding these options. .Usually ends up with me going through them all first.

I have just been told my facebook account is suspended. I only use it for contact from long lost relatives/friends - its not my main account - but the security question is not what i set. What is your first grade teachers last name? I don't even know what a first grade teacher is - isn't that american.

Its been going on weeks - and facebook dont allow you to contact them. I'm going round in circles. I want the account deleting or reinstating - what can i do?

    Thanks.
