Why would i waste my time in posting if I wasn't serious. By adding load to the vehicle will add additional weight to the shock absorber thus reducing the rattling and wobbling.

OK thanks. No offence meant but there are people on here who do post supposedly 'funny' comments.

Seems to make sense what you say. It might reduce the rattle.

    Yes.
    That's the way to go.

I had the bottom mount come away, the bush pulled through, and the shock was just hanging off, whenever I hit a bump, the back wheel left the road. It was near enough un-driveable.

    But

If the shock has a stud coming up through the inner wheel arch, (as oppoed to a bolt going though a bush on the top of the shock), has it just come loose, and requires tightening?

Its the rear and shock doesnt come up through the wheel arch. Remember its a Kia sedona which is like a mini-bus!

It seems to be attached to some sort of A-shaped piece under the wheel arch. Dont know if it just needs tightening or whether somethings come away.

At the moment, the top bit of the strut seems to have a few washers on, a rubber bit and these are moving up and down and rattling.

See pics. (not my car btw -just found pic)

As in the first one, it looks like the bushes have gone here which is causing the rattle.

Similar to the "wheel arch" mount, I'd just replace the bushes.
(But I did drive a Hillman many years ago that did the same, top bushes went, and it lasted weeks before I replaced them, and that rattled)

That doesn't look like the bushes gone, it looks like it's punched the lower bush through the bolted on bracket.
  • It will probaly make the car when driven Feel rough not smooth effecting your passengers inside the car I think .
And I'm sure it will be bad for your tyres causing uneven wear on that side.
I was just thinking guys .What would happen if this chap got stopped by the police . Would thy consider his car road worthy or see it has a something more serious in their eyes ?
