Every time I reboot my PC, it automatically updates my browser to IE 9 and I dont like it. I prefer my original IE. I've changed my update settings to NOT automatically update, but its still doing it. Ijust cant get on with the set up of IE9 , how do I solve this? I keep having to system restore, and it works, until I turn the PC off, then it happens again.

  • Hi KatyKat, This has happened to me (3 diff computors). According to my mob phone website (Samsung): Microsoft are making you (us) accept the update. I also "ticked" the "dontwant" box and did a system restore, but it stiil downloaded. I've got used to it now..seems OK.

Have you actually removed IE9 from your computer programmes?

There is an offical toolkit to stop IE9 installing on your system:

cajef, the uninstall wont work because it just keeps reinstalling IE whenever I reboot.
Reue, good link, but I cant get it to work. I followed all the instructions but when i get to the command prompt, it tells me that the file I have chosen to store the extracted files is not recognised. I've tried several different files but same result. It seems Microsoft are forcing us to use IE9, and that really annoys me.

Have you tried going to windows updates, run a check for updates, view the updates, left click IE 9 then right click to click hide update

technically you should update to the latest version because of security fixes and the fact it will get future security updates where the older version will not.

if you don't like the look of the new IE9 then one solution is you could switch to another browser Firefox looks a little like IE8 but if you can't get used to that you can install this addon that will make Firefox look just like IE8.

if you do decide to switch to Firefox be sure to update to IE9 anyway because it will make your computer much more secure.

Why can IE9 (not being used) 'make your computer more secure' ?

There are some things for which you need IE even if it is your preference to normally use another browser. It is at these times that IE9 properly patched will make you more secure.
