Mine so far is 8 years old. I would never ever buy Calgon. It is very expensive and if you work out how much they cost per year then you may as well put that £4 in a jar and use it to buy a new washing machine. I would say that a washing machine would last an average 4 years anyway so the money saved on calgon tablets would probably get you 2 or 3 washing machines by the time your old one breaks down.

I must be really lucky - mine is 16 years old and when i bought it back in 1996 it was the very cheapest model I could find on the market, after I'd trawled around every electrical store (the kind of model where the salesmen say "it's ok if you're just looking for something to last you a couple of years" :) )

It's a Tricity Bendix - I don't think that brand exists any more.

The door catch broke a few years ago but I got a new one off Ebay for a few quid and fixed it myself.

It's seen a fair few girlfriends come and go from my life over the years, some of whom have overloaded it, so I'm amazed that it's still running like a dream!

I bought one 28th dec 2011, then was not here for 5 weeks, then 21st feb had them out as was shorting electrics turns out the inlet valve was cracked and dripping on the motor hence the shorting, they refused to do it under warranty as its in the shed!! and a washing machine has to be kept betweeen 0-35 degrees! so they wanted to charge me £88.76 :eek::eek::eek:
We went on the net and found the part for £10 so hubby fixed it all well and good till last weekend ...... water not emptying suspect the pump, they come out on weds after an argument with currys (They were saying contract was with Beko i said no my contract is with you , i bought from you!)and yes its the pump..new one on order and still waiting.
My top tip is NEVER EVER BY BEKO!!!

I think mine's a Servis, it was the cheapest I could find when I got it 9 years ago, but it's just started leaking. I'm just hoping I can limp along with it for a few more months, then when I hopefully move house I can get mum's old one.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

How weird - i bought my washer dryer in 1996, and it is also going strong. I never buy extended warranties - but was persuaded to do so in this case - as the salesman told me they often had problems.

But apart from a door latch problem too - which i also fixed myself - its been fine. It did start sounding funny briefly, after my ex kept over-loading it - but that was many years ago, and it sounds fine now.

My washing machine (Bosch) is over twenty years old and still going strong (touches wood). Never used Calgon yet am supposedly in a hard water area (heating element in old water boiler needed replacing around every three years).

Just replaced my tumble dryer (Hoover) which after 27 years of regular service went wrong (drum had trouble initially turning with hot rubber smell, door needed banging hard before it would switch on and final fault was the heater packed up). Bought a Bosch A++ model.

And to top that off also just replaced my freezer (Hotpoint) after 23 years faithful service. Painful to do as it was still working but it gets frosted up then leaks on the floor (insulation breaking down) so concerned it was a fire risk. Again replaced with another Bosch A++ model.

Worryingly various people have advised me NOT to expect such long lifes from the replacements.

PS My CRT TV (13 years old) and stereo (22 years old) are still currently working well. Been tempted to replace both of them but whilst they are still going strong can't see the point of wasting the money...
