Random letter from Halifax offering me money for mis-sold PPI...

Title pretty much explains it all. The letter is basically saying that Halifax is offering me just over £1000. The thing is I have no recollection of ever taking out a loan with Halifax. I had a current account with them a few years ago but that's it.

The letter show's how they've calculate the sum and states that, 'if you're happy with the details and the amount on offer then you do not need to do anything as any payment due will be made as quickly as possible...' and that 'if we don't hear from you we will close your complaint, consider it resolved and make the payment outlined in this letter'.

There's a contact number on the letter which I'm gonna call.

What do you guys think?

If a provider has found a trend or a systematic issue then they are required to be pro-active in contacting you to let you know there is a problem and how they intend to resolve it. So, its probable that if you didnt make a complaint that this has happened.

  • Have you ever had a credit card with them? could it be for that instead.
  • Credit card? ....it's possible, I was a little reckless in my younger days but I can't say I know for sure.
