Apple iPad pre-order on CC, disappearing act!

in Credit cards
Hi everyone
I am a long time reader of MSE but thought it was time to join the forum.
I wondered if someone could give me some advice. I pre-ordered the new iPad last Thursday for delivery this Friday 16th March on my Halifax one credit card.
I checked my available balance on Friday morning and it dropped £399 as you would expect. However I have logged in this morning and my balance is at nil and my available balance is now 100%.
I have checked my Apple order and it is still coming on Friday.
I was wondering if anyone has had this before and if so what happened and what should I do?

Generally a credit card 'hold' will only last a few days, hence the reduction in your available credit.
Once the time is up, it will revert to normal. Once Apple ship, they will charge your card.
It is more a process where Apple or any merchant confirm that they are likely to be able to apply the charge to the card when they ship the item.
They won't ship unless the charge goes through however.... :-)0 -
Only thing you need to do is make sure you dont overspend on your hard as you have the £399 to be charged to it yet.
Some retailers bill when you order some retailers bill when they dispatch the order. My guess is apple fits into camp two so received authorisation for the amount but didnt claim the money. Halifax has then released the sum back to you as it hasnt been claimed yet (which is unusually fast but not totally unheard of). Apple will then claim the funds, my guess on Thursday or Friday night. The fact the authorisation has dropped off doesnt stop the transaction going through.0 -
Thanks both for your advice, I had a feeling they might take the money when they actually ship the product. There was me thinking (hoping) I would get it for free!0

My barclaycard actually shows it as having being charged to my account this morning, before it was in pending since I order it"I don't want to sound cold and un-caring, but I am those things so that's the way it comes out" - Bill Hicks0
