Thermostatic bar shower installation-Desperately need your help!

Im trying to fit a thermostatic shower bar. all pipes are in wall and ready to attach the wonky brass screwfit that joins the actual bar to the pipes, I think its called a dog leg connector?
when i screw them in, they dont sit at the same angle, so even though the gap between the pipes is 15cm as needed because these connectors are abit like a z shape, they are too far apart for my bar to screw on level?
Please help

Do the pipes in the wall need to move a bit?

So if you isolated the water at an appropriate point, unsecured the pipes from the wall, can you get it to screw together by wiggling a bit?

The pipes should be set in the wall at 150mm centres. The pipes should terminate in back plate elbows which should be securely fixed to the wall

The offset fittings then screw into these and allow for a little disrepency in your measurements and allow you to get the bar level

If you use enough thread seal then you turn them to sit in the right position for the shower.

They never sit in the right position without thread seal & will leak anyway when you switch it on if you do not use it. I use both the paste & PTFE tape.

On the 1/2 thread best to use loctite 55

On the 3/4 bar end use the fibre/rubber washer only, Using PTFE with stretch the threads and WILL cause problems

You are right of course. I was talking about the problem he has & why he has it & didn't make myself clear.

I still use both though. Never had a problem & dont really want water running behind the tiles into the front room.
  • Hello,
I know this is 10 days after the original post, but i has this exact same problem myself as a novice DIY plumber! What you need to do if it's not too late is forget your dogs legs connectors that came with the shower fitting and buy a Bar Shower Wall Plate (just google it) the connections are universal and 150mm apart and straight! you run your piprwork to the back of the plate- you may want to isolate it a bit further down and then chisel a bit more out of your wall to get the required depth. Then replace the top of your pipework with plastic fittings and connectors (not flexi hoses as they restrict your water flow too much) so that they kind of loop around the back of the plate. Then you can secure the plate to the wall and tile/plaster over. Job done! I hope this helps :)

i agree with 82 above, the bar showers are a bloody nitemare to fit with the offset connectors good advice from them that's how i would do it, ptfe won't expand the thread unless you tighten it way too much or the fitting is of really poor quality, plastic tape vs metal thread i know which one is gonna win
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
