Quick Share Sale

Hi all,

Need to quickly sell some shares to release some capital for an urgent payment I need to make. Question is which ones should I opt to sell as I no longer live in the UK so have no idea what's good and what's not!?!

I need to raise around £2000 only...

Thanks in advance everyone.... :o

  • Hi,

I know it's annoying to sell at a loss, but sometimes you have to cut your losses.

I think it will take a long time for you to recover your losses from the banks, so maybe look at them.

I would sell the ones no longer paying a dividend - the banks and Dixons.

Thanks for the replies. Am I right in assuming that all my shares held in banks are no longer paying any dividends? Should I prioritise selling one bank over another? Sorry for the somewhat silly questions but I have no idea what's happening in UK anymore as I'm here in the Philippines hehe :o
  • why don't you read the companies accounts, broker ratings and comparisons with sector peers, to try and establish a value for your shares.

Santa pays a div. More relevant is how well they pay one in future same for all the shares

I feel its a bit off to advise selling RBS at 25p. 100p would have been good advice as it turns out or 60 even but now

I'm more inclined to look at taking profits, this is a normal strategy for rebalancing a portfolio. Companies that have done well dont always continue to do so at the same rate, some like Apple surprise everyone and some completely reverse

A more radical step might be to sell every single one and put the proceeds into a tracker like FTSE or Asia pacific. That way you can avoid the dilemma of trying to guess who will do best.
If you are at a point in life where you will need to take money out instead of put it in, this could be best
