How do you respond to a buy it now request ?

I have an item for sale at present with a couple of days to go. I did not set a buy it now price , but have so far had 2 requests to name a buy it now price. I have no idea what sort of price the item might fetch so think i will just let the market set the price. I have 10 watchers which suggests there is a little bit of interest. How do you politely say no thanks to such a request, or should I name a stupid price ??
Thanks
Thanks

Just tell them thank you for their interest, but you would prefer to let the auction run its course, and that they are most welcome to place a bid on the item in the normal way.0

Do you know what price previous items that were the same as your went for?
How much do you want to acheive?
Then email your buyers with your answer
just because you have 10 watchers means nothing, it could be competitors watching, I recently had 7 watchers with no bids, so it is a risk either way0 -
I think you're right to wait and see if you have little idea what sort of price it's likely to achieve. At least a few of the watchers may be potential bidders, who might be understandably annoyed if the item on which they planned to bid is suddenly sold on BIN.0

think of a reasonable/top price and double it.
someone may go for it.
one bird in the possible hand, is worth seven in a possible bush.Get some gorm.0 -
Its usually more trouble than its worth. I did do this once - only on a cheap item - and between changing it to a buy it now a completely different person bought it! The original person wasn't very happy - oops!0

I did this once for someone, she asked me if I would accept x , I was happy with it. Told her it would go for BIN at 7pm and it took about 10 mins to go live whilst she was waiting!!!!
Another time, when i listed low knowing i would get a good price I said no thanks I prefer to wait to the auction finishes...good luck with your bid!0 -
Sorry to dig up an old post...!
If an item receives BIN offers shortly after being listed, then somebody recognises it's market value. If the first BIN seems tempting, then resist and let it run it's course - if it is getting offers that early on then it must have potential. Don't however post the question for all to see - if you reject an offer then people have an idea of the price in mind, and then you potentially lose out on bidding wars!
And I agree with the watchers statement (#3) - I, and many others that I know, all watch similar items to what we are selling. If they are selling more, or earning more I want to know why, and improve my listings. "Keep friends close, enemies closer!"<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
The simplest thing to do is to ask them
How much are you going to offer? it puts all the pressure on them and keeps the "power" with you0 -
i've been having the same kind of questions for my boat. I ask them to make and offer and they never come back.. well, the never did but Ebay pulled it cos i edited the description to to say to make me an offer.
It's on BIN with make me an offer, i've 35 watchers but only 2 official offers and about 4 in questions.0 -
I'm glad I found this as that's exacly what I was going to ask. I was going to delay responding and hope someone would make a bid so that I couldn't change the status!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0
