It may be because it has a shorter date ie the ones I bought were dated 3 May 2012 (they've got to get rid of them quickly)......, whereas normally Cathedral City cheese as a very long use by date ... just a thought

Mine had a shorter date than that! Should have checked the dates before picking up 6 packs in my local (shared with my mum and sister). I couldn't believe the two i picked up had an SEL of £4 odd but scanned at £1. I ran from the self service till to grab 4 more and didn't check the dates. Mine were dated 8th & 10th April :(. The shelf was full though :). Mum has given up cheese for Lent so guess we might be freezing some!!
Thanks OP for the tip off :) x

Ok. Just got back from my local Hu$$ersfield store:

Loads of packs opposite Fish counter /end aisle....

Cathedral City mature 350g (exp June 2012) - £3.98 and BOGOF until 20 March (still scanned through at that price, so I put it back). :o

Cathedral City lighter 350g - £3.98 and BOGOF until 20 March

    Cathedral City Vintage 350g - £4.45.

But none of the Cathedral City Extra Mature - not even an empty shelf space for them :(

Has anyone else used Hu$$ersfield store for glitches? I find there's hardly any on their shelves - possibly gleaned thoroughly by staff before it can reach the shelves.

    Anyway, back to the cheese.....
Because Tesco had that huge promo before around the same time as $ain$bury$, I also popped in the local $ain$.. store too.

I found they did stock the Cathedral City Extra Mature 350g (scanned through at £4.28 with no offers).

Plus they had the same BOGOF offer on the CC cheese Mature.

The 'pricenews' mag - what's that?

I've also bought more Lurpak (2 for £2 today). I wanted to get more to freeze, but only have Tesco's £3 of £30 spend coupons that came in the post.
I didn't notice anything new, as I went into the store - just Home decor mags and the new Tesco catalogue.

Yes it is the extra mature cheese and I have found some in Express store, Extra store and normal superstores. HTH
