Goodwill cheque from Halifax?

Hi there,

About 4 months ago I received a cheque for £50 from the Halifax which just stated that it was a goodwill payment. I had a mortgage with the Halifax for 10 years from 1996 to 2006. I believe that I was mis sold PPI when I first took out my mortgage with the Halifax as I remember being told that the PPI payments had to be made and were not voluntary. However, I do not hold any paperwork other than a letter dated December 2006 which does state my old mortgage account number. I no longer have my mortgage with the Halifax.

I have telephoned the Halifax today and put in a claim for PPI but was just wondering if, by accepting the £50 goodwill payment, this will affect my claim in any way. Also, does the fact that I received this goodwill payment mean that the Halifax are already aware that I am eligible to make a claim for PPI?

Any advice in respect of this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes. As you complaint on PPi seems identical to the first complaint.

No. Halifax are paying out money all over the place and £50 is nothing. Its a standard get rid of you payment.

  • Thank you for your reply dunstonh but perhaps I should have been more specific with my questions.

Before today I had never made a claim for PPI and received the letter from the Halifax enclosing the cheque for £50 completely out of the blue. I wanted to know whether the fact that the Halifax sent me this money was down to them knowing I had a legitimate claim for PPI or whether they have sent this goodwill payment to all its customers (or ex-customers in my case), which seems extremely unlikely.

Has anyone else on this forum received the £50 goodwill payment from the Halifax?

Your further thoughts on this would be appreciated.

    Thanks.
