PPI - how to find out if mis sold online?

Hello

Have had an MBNA credit card since around 2005 and have been paying PPI. Signed up for the card online and don't have any paperwork.

I understand that if you signed up online the issue of reclaiming is all about whether they already had the box ticked for you to have PPI or whether you had to opt in? I find it unlikely that I would have opted in for PPI - it's not the sort of thing I'd do. But can't remember the online form at all ...

How can I find out if they automatically opted me in when I signed up?

I'd rather do it myself as the reclaim companies seem a rip off. Seen the helpful letter templates on MSE but not sure about how to find out if I was automatically opted in on the online form?

Thanks loads if anyone can help on this.

Kate

You can request a SAR from them and see if the application was pre ticked maybe. I think it was by 2007 all firms were asked to stop using pre ticked boxes (not 100% but maybe someone can confirm) so there is a chance yours was pre ticked in 2005. Maybe take a look through the site to see if anyone posted having their box pre ticked in 2005 by MBNA.

OK. So, for the last 7 years, you have seen this monthly payment going through for something you didnt agree to. So, why did you not complain after nearly 80 occurrences of it?

Dunstonh just beat me to it there.

The payment would have been a seperate amount on your statement every month for years, did you not notice it.
