"Lost" account numbers

I have had two replies so far from banks saying that they cannot find my account number. I no longer have the details. The accounts were paid off in full and closed less than six years ago, I know this for sure as I have done this since moving to my current address six years ago. I have supplied them with my current address, previous address, and date of birth. I find it hard to believe that they cannot trace my details-advice please.
