I also drive a Hyundai and unfortunately, I have to have it serviced by them to keep the 5 year warranty valid. I do fewer than 2500 miles a year.

You sure about that? I thought the service could be carried out anywhere, as long as it was upto the same standard as the manufacturers service.

Self servicing is the way forward, I'm sure everyone either has someone close to them (friend/family) or can do the majority of things themselves.

I'm pretty busy these days, so got a quote from 2 local garages. For an air filter, oil filter, oil and cabin filter change they were after £149 and £170 respectively.

I got original Rover parts from eBay, and it took me an hour to do. Cost about £40 all in. Worth a punt in these expensive times we live in. :)

FWIW I've normally found that when you price up buying the oil + filter, a garage might not actually be that expensive. My local garage were only £5 more than I could actually buy the oil + filter for, and I got a stamp too...
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

Years ago I ran cars and never hardly serviced anything just repairing them when they broke down, cars today are a different kettle of fish and when you think of it £200 a year is less than £5 a week.

    Or £140, at £2.69/ wk ;):D
