New laptop

Hello all... thought I'd make a new thread as I fear I might have posted this in the wrong place originally....

Just wondering if you can help... I'm in the market for a new laptop as my desktop's gone up the spout. I do a fair whack of audio editing and use adobe photoshop elements 5 a fair bit, as well as listening to music and going on t'internet. Just wondering what I should go for? I've seen this: http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/p...ification#spec

and this: http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/pr...hs1&l=en&s=dhs (the one at 599)

Any suggestions as to which is best for me - I'm looking not just at value but also reliability, speed etc.

Thank you in advance. It's a minefield out there!

It is a minefield. My choice would be to go for a Sony Vaio if you can afford it. Get the Core2Duo processor and 1Gb Ram, with a 15.4" TFT. I have seen one for just under £800. Alternately a Dell laptop might fir the bill, check out their site. I brought an Acer 18 months ago, whilst it was good value, it is not well made and the customer service is awful. Also check out the John Lewis website, they are offering a free two year guarantee (instead of the usual one).
  • neither of those links work. You could always fix/buy a new your desktop.., you get more bang for your buck with desktops.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • Apologies for the links not working. thanks for the info - would you recommend dell then? It's the one I keep seeming to come back to. I fear the sony is a touch out of my price range, i'm afraid!

  • Aldi have a laptop coming soon - their pc/laptop stuff is normally good value - unfortunately no spec at the mo. I have a dell work laptop and my son has the dell 6400 never a moments trouble with them.

Have a look on the John Lewis site. They have a Toshiba Laptop, with Vista Home premiun Core2Duo processor, 1Gb RAM 15.4" TFT screen and two year warrenty for £599. Only 60GB hard drive but you cold supplement that with an external drive. Just a thought. There are a few others in your price range too.
