SatNav on a smartphone

I recently downloaded this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.navfree.android.OSM.ALL

I haven't used it yet though - has anyone tried one of these apps? what did you think?
Welcome to Navfree!Navfree is a completely free navigation app that offers turn-by-turn directions, spoken and on-screen instructions, offline map use and address search and live search via Google and Microsoft Bing, among many other features.
The maps it uses are available for free download from the Navfree Store. The map data is stored on your device so there is no need for a constant data connection while driving. It also allows you to browse maps anytime, anywhere without paying for data connections, which means no costly roaming charges when abroad.
It uses high-quality, open-source map data from OpenStreetMap that has been created and is continually improved by as many as 400,000 users around the world. If you see a problem, you can help to improve the quality of the maps by signing up to https://www.openstreetmap.org.

Why not use Googles own navigation? it's Installed with Google maps for Android......

Not for stupid people though, as is places blue line's on the map route, blue lines that look identical to rivers and canal's :rotfl:

I use it all the time, very good, but hammers the battery (so you need a charging cable).

I had a discussion about it with the GF, we both think it'll never overtake dedicated satnav's, too many people are too stupid to figure out how to do that on their phones. They're too much like PC's now and people get that same level technophobia when it comes to using them.
The whole concept of having to navigate through your phone, rather than just switching it on and tapping a destination in.... Too much for some.

Googlenav is excellent, works absolutely fine. I just bought a £5 ebay charger and a £12 nice cradle to hold my phone when I need it on Satnav duty.

You do have to use some common sense to force it to route plan properly, but I find this no worse than any stand alone sat nav.

You also need a decent data plan so that it can download maps as you go without costing you. For occasional sat nav use, I find it perfect.

I use co-pilot live as well as the built in google maps.

I preferred ovi maps. But i like the fact the android phone doesnt put the directions through the cars speakers when on handsfree.
I thought that was daft, Kept interrupting the radio.

I use Waze, its completely free and it has free inbuilt traffic. I have used Tomtom, co-pilot and Google. They all prefer main routes. This one seems to take me on the most optimal route and will re-route when traffic.

Because it requires a data connection so costs money to use (unless you data included in your package but I am PAYG)

The one I linked lets you download the maps onto your phone at home (i.e. using wi-fi so free) - a new upgraded map is released every 2 months

The download was 345MB so you need free space on phone or SD card
