Urgent Help Please OAP Housing benefit Stopped

Hi

MIL is 66 and is on housing benefit paid to a private landord of £232.00 per month she has just taken a part-time jobe earning about £20 a week so she phoned the Benefits Office to advise, they said they would send out the new forms for her to fill in - but the landlord has received a notice from then saying housing benefit is no longer payable for this person.

MIL phoned them and they said till they had re-assessed her income she would have to pay her own rent????????

Is this right, it could take weeks to sort out

any help and advice please

When my claim was re-assesed due to a change in my circumstances, my claim was suspended. No HB was paid for 5 weeks and, as a result, had to use my Incapacity Benefit and Income Support to pay the rent.
  • did the HB get back dated?

HB might have been suspended pending receipt of the new info, but claim should be re-instated from the date it was suspended.

What other income has MIL got?

IIRC, an extra £20 earnings will attract a £10 disregard, then the other £10 will be tapered at 65%, so she'd potentially lose £6.50 worth of HB.
  • Hi I have had trouble with housing benefit people. I was on I/benefit and when I reached 65 years old last December I phoned the benefit office and told them that I was going to get the state pension.
My pension has gone up I thought I would do the right thing and take my paper work down to them only to discover I owed them £508.01, which has to be repaid, the fact that I have no proof that I did tell them that I was retiring so they can only back date from the time I went down to their office. They sent me their forecast of £37.14, but are stopping me back some each week to repay the £508.01. This is because my money has gone up from £338.00 pm to £597.00 pm they have deducted what they give me towards my rent by £ 35.66 and council tax by £11.00 a week which makes me £17.34 a week better off. I asked for a meeting, as I did not think their figures were right and as a result of this meeting I got nearly £10 a week more and £1.20 a week more council tax, because as I was on I/b. I took my pension early, so could I have stayed on I/b benefits or did I have to take my o.a.p if so they at the benefits office should have known but they will not back date it to December but they soon take their money back. Is there any way I can get it back dated from December.
There must be so many o.a.p that are in the same position as me? do we know what the fresh old is I was told that you would have to bring in less then £120 a week to get all your rent and council tax paid in full : I pay £480 a month rent . And because we both paid in to pension we are penalise can anybody help
