Not a kindle format but epub or mobi formats & pdf if you sign up to English tips.org, you can download ebooks for free, and many different titles! It is a site mainly for learning English but has lots of other books too. I I used to use it when I taught English abroad. Recently I went on there and downloaded The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling for free! Saved me ten quid!

Why not?
Anything that gets a child interested in books and reading is a good thing. What does it matter what format the book is in?
