When we got our mortgage 7 years ago with Bank of Scotland, we just got our Home Insurance with them as well. Its always been an insurance that I never thought about as it just automatically re-news every year. This year however, I decided to have a look into it on confused.com. I would have been paying £23 with BOS but managed to get a good deal with Bradford & Bingley for £14 plus they gave me extra contents cover. When I contacted BOS about switching, all they asked me was why I was switching and never made any effort to keep me as a customer.

I make that a saving of around £120 !! :j

That's the sneakily clever thing about auto-renewals; in taking out the hassle of having to think about it they also reduce the likelihood of you bothering to look around for a better deal! I recently switched from Bank of Scotland for home insurance as well actually! we're now with Cornhill Direct for building and contents, since we get 20% discount for not having had any contents or personal possession claims or losses in the past 4 years.. made us a tidy saving

We weren't going to change due to a claim last year for a broken window - I had a shot on confused.com and saved £150 quid - half of what we were paying - well worth trying every year from now on I think!!:beer:
