Can anyone tell me if you can still buy platform tickets at Leeds railway station? And if so, is there a machine or do you have to buy them from the ticket office?
I've tried both Network Rail and National Rail Enquiries but neither of them claim to know or have a phone number for Leeds:wall:
Thanks in advance

I've got the number you can call to pre-book assistance, but to be honest I'm not sure how reliable it is and whether they only will give assistance to registered disabled people or not (yes I know I can call and ask that) but to make 100% sure that all would be ok I thought it would be easier to get a platform ticket and have a friend/relative sort it out.pity you didnt ask yesterday as i was there

That is what is called sod's law and would have been too easy for me to ask before somebody was going, it's always the way that I ask after lol! Shame the record place has gone though, pretty much like all the old places0 -
You can't buy a platform ticket, I tried to do this with one of my Aunties to give her a hand with her bags. Pre-booking assistance will be your best bet. What I did was prebook assistance but then asked to go with the person, as my auntie wouldn't be too willing to hand her bags over to someone she didn't know, and they were perfectly happy to let me do that.0

It should be *very* reliable, the details get put onto a dedicated computer database and every station gets an email/fax every day with their assists for the day. I think the conductors also get a printout with their daily notices if they have assists on their shift.
Anyone who needs to can use the service.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

So that you can see somebody off on their journey, Brief Encounter style.
They were popular with train spotters too.

Thanks everyone for the help, Owain it is good to know that it's not just a fingers crossed and hope for the best kind of thing, which to be honest I had really imagined it would be - or only reserved for those that can show some sort of disablement qualification.
Thanks again everyone, I don't know why I didn't just come here in the 1st place, instead it has cost me 2 calls to 0845 numbers, (expensive as couldn't find alternative numbers) & 1 geographical call (free in call plan) just to be told by National Rail Enquiries & Network Rail that they can't answer the question! :rotfl:0 -
If there is no way to buy a platform ticket (sometimes you can buy them from ticket machines), just go up to the person at the barrier and ask them if you can go through to help the person on/see them off the particular train. They will let you through. They will then let you back out. I have done this on several occasions without any problems.0

When I was a kid, a platform ticket at Manchester London Road was 1d (that's less than half a penny in new money) for the day! But we usually managed to find a way onto the platform for free by sneaking through somewhere or other. Then the penny bought an ice lolly on the way home."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
